Professor Farzad Sharifian, Director of the University’s Language and Society Centre, has been awarded a prestigious Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany.
The Fellowship will allow Professor Sharifian to collaborate with distinguished German linguist, Professor Hans-Georg Wolf, at Potsdam University in the study of intercultural and international communication.
Professor Sharifian’s project, Application of Cultural Linguistics in Intercultural Communication and World Englishes, will apply the cutting-edge research framework of Cultural Linguistics to the study of intercultural and international communication.
“In this day and age of globalisation, which brings people from many different cultural backgrounds into contact with each other, it is important that we develop a better understanding of intercultural and international communication,” Professor Sharifian said.
