Editor’s Note: The Kyiv Post on Oct. 3 published online an unofficial English-language translation of an open letter to the U.S. Congress written the same day by Ukrainian Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin. The version published included many grammatical and contextual mistakes, although the substance of both official and unofficial versions is essentially identical. The original letter was written in Russian. Kuzmin notified the Kyiv Post of the mistakes on Oct. 6 and alerted us to the official English translation posted on the General Prosecutor Office's website on Oct. 5. The newspaper is publishing below the official translation, which can also be found here on the website of the General Prosecutor’s Office. We believed that publishing the letter online quickly on Oct. 3 was important to our readers, but we should have noted it was an unofficial translation. Chief editor Brian Bonner and deputy chief editor Katya Gorchinskaya on Oct. 6 apologized to Mr. Kuzmin in his office. We also apologize publicly for the mistakes, which were not intentional. The official version will also be published in the Oct. 12 print edition of the Kyiv Post. We have asked Ukrainska Pravda, which published the unofficial translation, to use the General Prosecutor Office's version instead and we also ask all other news media to use the official version of the open letter and the official translation.
