Last week we analyzed what makes search engines tick. Over the next few weeks, I’ll address search engine ranking — what you can do that will cause your website link to rank at the top of a search engine results page. I will also address what to look for when you’re considering a SEO company to assist your online search results.

Search engines like The Big Three — Google, Yahoo and Bing — are dominant in terms of traffic. According to recent data from hitwise.com, Google sees the most traffic at 71 percent, followed by Yahoo at about 14 percent, and Bing at 9.5 percent. While data varies by country, the big three account for about 95 percent of all searches done online.

For the purpose of this column, I’ve chosen mainly to focus on Google because it holds the largest market share. But be aware that the strategies also apply to improving your organic results on Yahoo and Bing.
