Proofreading mistakes and spelling errors are costing British banks and businesses millions in revenue, according to internet entrepreneur, Charles Duncombe.
Mr Duncombe owns a diverse potfolio of online businesses, including travel, mobile phones and clothing e-tailers. His company’s testing found that flaws in English could result in conversion rates – that is, the amount of visitors converting into customers – failing by half.
The Confederation of British Industry said English writing and literacy issues were proving costly for its member companies. Their Head of Education and Skills said that British businesses were having to invest greatly in literacy programmes for staff.
